Common conditions and concerns
-
Inattention and difficulty concentrating can impact both work and home life. Every psychiatric evaluation includes a review of ADHD symptoms and developmental history to determine whether lifestyle changes or medication (non-stimulants or stimulants) may be appropriate.
-
Anxiety symptoms can include excessive worry, feeling restless or on edge, difficulty relaxing, racing thoughts, irritability, trouble concentrating, and sleep difficulties. Physical symptoms may include a rapid heartbeat, muscle tension, sweating, shortness of breath, or stomach discomfort.
-
OCD commonly involves persistent, unwanted thoughts, images, or urges (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental rituals (compulsions) performed to reduce anxiety or prevent feared outcomes. Symptoms can be time-consuming, distressing, and interfere with daily functioning.
-
Depression can include persistent sadness, irritability, low motivation, loss of interest or pleasure, mood swings, feelings of hopelessness, or unusually elevated or energized moods.
-
Bipolar disorder involves episodes of mood elevation and depression. Symptoms may include mood swings, sleep changes, impulsivity, or low mood, decreased energy, difficulty concentrating, and loss of interest or pleasure.
-
Trauma can cause both physical and psychological symptoms which may be confused for other Psychiatric conditions. Proper diagnosis of trauma-related conditions can help shape the treatment plan and avoid unnecessary pharmacological treatment.
